Welcome to "The-Fuchsia-File". Development of the site is proceeding but it is still untidy in a few places. Please bear with us. For example, the news items or Google ads may sometimes look strange and irrelevant to fuchsia enthusiasts. These are fed to us by automated processes and on some pages seem to relate more to words in the name of the fuchsia cultivar (such as Carmel, swingtime or army nurse) than to fuchsias themselves. We are working on it.

Fuchsia - 'Margaret'

A popular fuchsia variety in cultivation since the 1930s, 'Margaret' is a strong-growing upright bush variety which branches well without any special attention and is extremely free flowering.

It can be grown as a fuchsia hedge and will easily reach four to five feet high in many places; indeed, it has been claimed that in mild areas it can grow to as much as twenty feet.

The semi-double flower has a corolla of deep violet, veined with cerise, while the sepals are carmine-red.

In most climate zones Margaret is reliably hardy. After particularly cold winters it may be advisable to trim back the tops of the stems but there is often no need to cut it back drastically. 'Margaret' has one of the longer flowering seasons among hardy fuchsia varieties.

In the east midlands of England Margaret has been one of my most successful hardy varieties in the first three years of my new garden.
