Welcome to "The-Fuchsia-File". Development of the site is proceeding but it is still untidy in a few places. Please bear with us. For example, the news items or Google ads may sometimes look strange and irrelevant to fuchsia enthusiasts. These are fed to us by automated processes and on some pages seem to relate more to words in the name of the fuchsia cultivar (such as Carmel, swingtime or army nurse) than to fuchsias themselves. We are working on it.

Fuchsia 'Alice Hoffman'

'Alice Hoffman' is a deservedly popular red and white hardy fuchsia variety which is hardy enough to grow permanently outside in the garden except in areas of very cold climate.

Bred in Germany almost a century ago it has small single flowers with rose red (sometimes described as deep pink) tube and sepals over a white corolla veined with red. The tube is very short and the sepals are held horizontal with a slight upward curve.

Out of doors Alice Hoffman will grow to around eighteen inches or a little more as a compact bush and is very useful for summer fuchsia bedding.
